CN train leaks small amount of crude oil after partial derailment west

WHITECOURT, Alta. — A number of cars in a Canadian National Railway freight have derailed northwest of Edmonton.Emily Hamer, a CN spokeswoman, says there were no injuries and no fire when five cars in the southbound train left the tracks early Friday morning, about 15 kilometres east of the town of Whitecourt.Hamer says two of the five cars were loaded with crude oil, but the tankers are intact and that only a slight amount of cargo leaked from the valve of one of them.She says the other three cars were carrying paper and forest products.Local emergency crews and environmental teams were on site.Brian Wynn, chief of the Whitecourt Fire Department, says the area where the derailment occurred is heavily treed and that emergency crews had to use all-terrain vehicles to gain access to it.
