The McGarvey brothers are obvioulsy doing something ‘write’ when it comes to their business. The young brothers, Ronan (13) and Conor (10) from Loughanure, couldn’t keep up with orders for the Christmas market. Now the directors of Donegal Pens say they are so busy, they are going to have to move to a bigger premises – in their back garden. The two boys from the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht, currently operate out of their garden shed which measures just 16 feet by eight feet. But now dad Eoin is planning to get them a bigger shed as their business empire expands.“They literally couldn’t keep up with the orders before Christmas. It was great to see them so busy.“It’s got so cramped in the shed that they have to store the pen boxes in the house and their mammy isn’t too happy with that. “We’re going to have to have a look at getting a bigger shed the way things are going,” said the proud dad.The lads started the business almost two years ago and the orders have been coming in from around the world ever since.Ronan and Conor, who are official members of the Irish Woodturners’ Guild, first got the idea when they attended a craft fair in Antrim in July 2009 and saw a demonstration in woodturning by Co Down man Geoff Tulip.Among those who are now the proud owners of Donegal Pens include Gerry Adams, Bertie Ahern and Daniel O’Donnell. The famous Donegal singer has even included a link to the lad’s company on his official website. Before Christmas the lads couldn’t keep up with orders which came in from around the globe including New Zealand, America and across Europe.“We never thought it would get this big,” said Ronan.“We really enjoy doing it and we spend as much as we can in the shed coming up with new ideas and new designs,” he said. The boys are always on the look-out for old Bog Oak in Donegal and also buy much of the wood for the pens on eBay. They receive about 95% of their orders through their website www.donegalpens.com and are currently working on new designs including fountain and mechanical pens.EndsDONEGAL BROTHERS DOING THE ‘WRITE’ THING! was last modified: January 6th, 2011 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:loughanure donegal pens McGarvey

ARCATA >> Tuesday night’s 121-56 win over Future College might have just been an exhibition outing for the Humboldt State men’s basketball team, but there was added importance for sophomore forward Calvin Young II.For Young II, one of the Jacks’ most important players who is coming off major knee surgery, it was the latest step in a comeback process that has spanned 12 months now.Young II, who missed all of last season after sustaining a torn ACL right before the start of preseason practice, …
Matt Prior has revealed his surprise at being named England’s wicketkeeper for next month’s Cricket World Cup in Asia. The Sussex keeper had been overlooked by England’s selectors for nearly a year, having not featured in the 50-over format, since March 2010.However, England team director Andy Flower confirmed Prior was viewed as a more suitable option for the sub-continental pitches.Prior, who is set to go straight into the England side for the second of seven one-day games against Australia in Hobart, said: “I wasn’t expecting it. I was always hoping, you always do when a team is being selected.”I’ve always said that whenever England are playing I want to be the guy with the gloves on. I am absolutely delighted with selection. I’ve loved every second since rejoining the squad. It feels like I’ve come home again so I’m really happy.”Steven Davies had been expected to be named in the 15-man squad, after being selected for the current seven-match series against Australia. But the Surrey wicketkeeper, who scored 42 from 35 balls in Sunday’s defeat in the opening fixture of the series in Melbourne, is set to return to the sidelines.Prior, who helped England to their historic 3-1 Ashes series win, admitted that he empathised with his teammate: “Davies and I have worked a lot together, we’re in the keepers’ union and we have been on this whole trip. All you can do is work your best and try your best to perform and whoever gets the nod on the day, fair play to them.”advertisement”It was only a short while back I was shaking his hand and saying well done to him. It works that way, it’s international sport. It’s cut-throat at times, but everyone has been through it. I’m just very happy that I’ve got the nod this time.”England’s opening match of the World Cup is against the Netherlands in Nagpur on the 22nd February, whilst the tournament officially beings on February 19th, when two of the co-hosts Bangladesh and India meet in Dhaka.
Real Madrid Lucas & Asensio leave benched Bale facing fight for PSG start Ben Hayward Last updated 1 year ago 04:09 22/2/2018 FacebookTwitterRedditcopy Comments() Oscar Del Pozo Real Madrid Primera División Leganés v Real Madrid PSG v Real Madrid Leganés PSG UEFA Champions League Gareth Bale Opinion The Welsh winger was left out of his side’s 3-1 win at Leganes on Wednesday and is by no means guaranteed a place in the team in Paris next month Gareth Bale has new competition at Real Madrid. The 28-year-old is fully fit again and was recently reunited with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in attack for the first time in over 270 days. However, the form of Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez means Bale’s starting spot is under threat once more.Asensio and Lucas came off the bench to change the game as Zinedine Zidane’s side beat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last-16 first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu last week, with the former following up that impressive show with two goals in the thrilling 5-3 weekend win at Betis.Vazquez also did well in that match and was a handed a start for Wednesday’s match at Leganes (a fixture rearranged from December when Madrid were away at the Club World Cup) as Bale began the night on the bench. This year, only Ronaldo (10 strikes and two assists) has participated in more goals for Real.Bale was disappointing against Betis, the former Tottenham midfielder failing to make his mark in 73 minutes at the Benito Villamarin before being substituted, having touched the ball only 20 times even though Madrid scored five times.Asked about the winger’s display afterwards, Zidane simply said: “Well, Gareth played his game.” It was, therefore, no surprise that the 28-year-old was left out of the starting line-up at Leganes, meaning Bale has now been a substitute in three of the last four games. After the win at Leganes, Zidane said of Bale’s demotion: “It is a bit of everything, but I am happy with Gareth. We must go bit by bit with him, so that he finds his best level.”With three matches in a week, he could well be back in the team for the visit of in-form Alaves at the Bernabeu on Saturday, but his place against PSG in the sides’ second leg at the Parc des Princes in March certainly looks under threat.Even if Toni Kroos and Luka Modric fail to recover in time from injury, Zidane may decide it is in Madrid’s best interests to start with Ronaldo and Benzema (significantly improved on Wednesday) up front and a four-man midfield, with Asensio and Lucas as the two wide men.The two Spain stars were full of energy and running in their short time on the pitch against PSG in the first leg, while their ability to track back and help out with defensive duties could be a big plus for Zidane in Paris.Asensio and Lucas have certainly staked their claims for a starting spot in Paris over the past couple of weeks and if he is to feature in the big game on March 6, Bale will now have to prove himself to Zidane all over again.

Salah is the spearhead of one of the world’s most devastating attacks this season — and one that has now eclipsed the century mark in all competitions. While Liverpool’s forward play has always been good under Klopp, they have never been this good and it is the first time in the manager’s Anfield tenure that his side as eclipsed 100 goals.20 – Mo Salah has scored 20 goals with his left foot in the Premier League this season, the most by a player in a single season in the competition’s history. Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane added three more to the tally in the 4-1 victory.Only Manchester City, who have bagged 111 goals this season, have been more productive. It is Liverpool’s best attack since 2013-14’s near-title winning campaign, when Brendan Rodgers’ side put up 110 in all competitions. With 10 Premier League games and likely at least three Champions League contests remaining, Klopp’s side seem almost certain to eclipse that mark in the near future. In the meantime, the Reds will take pleasure in their victory, which sees them move up to second in the Premier League table, with Manchester United to square off against Chelsea on Sunday. Neymar Revealed: Neymar’s giant Ballon d’Or rewards in lucrative Nike contract Goal Last updated 1 year ago 17:29 3/3/2018 FacebookTwitterRedditcopy Comments(0) Getty Images Neymar PSG Troyes v PSG Troyes Ligue 1 WTF The Brazil ace has to play for his country to ensure he earns the maximum amount from a sponsorship deal that runs until at least 2022 Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar stands to receive a whopping figure from his Nike sponsorship deal should he scoop the Ballon d’Or, according to documents obtained and published by UOL Esporte. The 26-year-old attacker, who made a world-record move from Barcelona to PSG for €222 million last August, receives a net salary of around €40m per year but adds to that annually thanks to a lucrative contract with the sportswear company.Neymar signed the deal in 2011, with the agreement put in place stretching through until 2022, although Nike can take out an option to extend it for two further years. Article continues below Editors’ Picks Williams case shows Solskjaer isn’t holding Man Utd’s youngsters back – he’s protecting them Goalkeeper crisis! Walker to the rescue but City sweating on Ederson injury ahead of Liverpool clash Out of his depth! Emery on borrowed time after another abysmal Arsenal display Diving, tactical fouls & the emerging war of words between Guardiola & Klopp Just how much extra Neymar receives depends on his performance on the field – and the club he is at. The deal divides teams into four categories (A, B, C, D) depending on their standing in the game. Although these have been subject to review, when the deal was signed in 2011, the category ‘A’ clubs were Chelsea, Milan, Manchester United, Arsenal, Juventus, Bayern, Inter, Barcelona and Real Madrid. That, however, was just as QSI’s investment in PSG was beginning, and while it is unclear which band the Ligue 1 leaders currently falls into, the strength of their marketing power may well have them among the elite now.A category B club, meanwhile, is a team that has qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League in three of the previous five seasons – a requirement that PSG will match even if they exit the competition against Real Madrid on Tuesday after losing 3-1 in the first leg.Neymar, of course, will not be able to help his side in that fixture, having suffered a broken bone in his foot that could keep him sidelined for the remainder of the Ligue 1 season . The injury was described by Brazil fitness coach Fabio Mahseredjian as potentially a “good thing” for the country’s World Cup aspirations in the summer, and should Neymar lift that trophy, he will earn $50,000. Should he be named the best player or finish as top scorer at Russia 2018, however, he will pocket $200,000.The real money, however, is in winning the Ballon d’Or. Should Neymar pick up the individual prize one, he will receive a $1m bonus, but on the second occasion he wins it, that bonus will double. Indeed, Nike has agreed that the prime on the attacker scooping that prize should go up by $1m for each time he wins it, until the fourth occasion. Thereafter, he will be awarded $4m for each subsequent success.Playing with Brazil, however, is an essential requirement of the deal. Should he play over 70 per cent of the national team’s matches, he will receive the bonuses in full, but between 30-70% his remuneration would be cut to 70%. If he were to play in less than 30% of Brazil’s matches in a year, he would receive only 30%.

I’ve been remiss in blogging because at Network for Good, we’ve been working around the clock to launch SixDegrees.org with Kevin Bacon. It went live today, and USA Today covered the story. The goal is to allow anyone to be a celebrity for their charity. As Kevin puts it,“SixDegrees.org is about using the idea that we are all connected to accomplish something good. It is my hope that Six Degrees will soon be something more than a game or a gimmick. It will also be a force for good, by bringing a social conscience to social networking.” Six Degrees harnesses two important online trends: the exponential growth of social networks and the increasing interest in using the web for raising money for charity among family and friends, which I’m always blogging about here. It also seeks to reward people for evangelizing for their cause by literally making them celebrities — putting their pictures and stories online next to the likes of Will Ferrell, Robert Duvall, Kyra Sedgwick, Jessica Simpson, Tyra Banks, and so on.Check it out, and please post your own cause! And share your thoughts – is it better than floam?
The most common question(s) from prospective donors: “How much of my money goes to program versus overhead, and what can you tell me that will show me how well you spend your money?” I know this from my experiences at nonprofits (it’s always the #1 customer inquiry) and my friends from Sea Change, who’ve heard a lot of focus group participants ask those questions. My question to you: Are you answering this question on the home page of your website? The first page of your direct mail? You need to.Mercy Corps does an especially good job of this.
